I just got off the phone with Phil Keaggy. We had an interesting conversation:
Phil: Hey, Burly! What's goin' down big man?
Burly: Nothing much. Just have a quick question for you.
Phil: Yo, what's up?
Burly: What's it like being the greatest guitar player who ever lived.
Phil: Gosh, I don't know. You'll have to ask Sam Boyd that question.
Burly: That's cool. See you later.
Phil: Okay, dude. Don't be a stranger.

Phil told me he's pretty sure it's urban legend. He told me that shortly before Jimmy died, he said, "I never said that ... but I should've."
Of course you know the true story is that when Eddie Van Hallen (Not Jimmi Hendrix - silly) was asked who was the greatest guitarist in the world, he said, 'I don't know ask Phil Keaggy.'
We got to keep our stories straight!
Sadly and seriously, I think we see these legends rise when Christ's Church retreats to the ghettos of culture. When His people are mixing it up in significant ways, in ways that they have been gifted, then we get two things: a mess and the advance of Christ's Kingdom on this earth. Perhaps that is what Dr. Enns and others are up to...
